Nightmares

Sleeping Emmy
I've always had very vivid dreams that are sometimes nightmares. Unfortunately for her, Emily seems to have taken after me in that regard.

I've been suffering from a pretty bad migraine this week because of the craptastic weather that we've been having. But Miss Emily had been sleeping through the night in her own bed with no issues.

Last night, though, I had passed out because I was really tired. I was awoken around midnight to my husband carrying Emily (along with her pillow, blanket and stuffed animals) into our room.

Apparently, she had let out a scream causing him to rush to her room. She had had a nasty nightmare. It had been so bad a dream that she kept waking up every hour or so just enough to make sure I was still next to her.

Because of her waking up, I didn't get any sleep. That plus thunderstorms plus migraine equaled really bad sleepfail that I'm feeling now.

Hopefully she'll have a nightmare free night tonight I can get some sleep.

Breaks are Good

My Two Loves
I love being a mom. Emily is really the light of my life. But the life of a stay at home mom gets a little dull sometimes. I sometimes long for a break.

I do know that I'm pretty lucky as far as that goes. I'm able to do stuff like go to Dragon*Con, LARP, and other geeky things.

But it's been a long while since I've been able to go on a date with my husband. Thankfully, a good friend was able to watch Emily on Sunday. Todd and I went to see 'Suckerpunch'.

I really liked the movie, but it was just nice to be out with my husband doing something that was more adult.

I think parents really need breaks from their kids. I know it recharges my batteries when I'm away from Emily for a bit. I love her, but I also enjoy my time away from her. I know when I've gone LARPing for the weekend, it is so great to see her when it's time to pick her up.

But it's also nice to be just Mandy for a while instead of just Mommy. I really strive very hard not to be a mombie and retain who I was before I was a mom.

Birthday!

Emily at my birthday celebration
Last Saturday was my birthday. I'm a strange person and I've always liked my birthday, but I also get really sad if my birthday isn't acknowledged.

After been so sick over Christmas and at the beginning of this year, I asked my friends to plan a surprise for my birthday. Since my birthday was on a Saturday, Todd was at work most of the day because of the way his work schedule is.

So my best friend told me to meet me at her house at 9:30, and I was to follow her to where the birthday surprise was going to be at.

We ventured to downtown Hendersonville where we were a little afraid we weren't going to find parking because of a St. Patrick's Day celebration that was going on, but we did and we headed to the surprise.

Where we went is this place called Hands On that I had been wanting to take Emmy to for a while. It's a play place that has all these neat things like a mock grocery store, a mock post office, a slide, a room where you can paint and play with clay, a baby room filled with baby dolls, a mock bakery and more.

Outside of the place, my friends were waiting with party hats and had a card made for me (it was a Star Wars card!). We all took our party hats off once we got inside, but Emily insisted on keeping it on the entire time we were playing.

After we were done playing, we went to a nearby place called 'Mike's on Main' for lunch. It was very yummy and it was nice to hang out with my friends.

Then Emily and I headed home for a nap since we were both pretty tired. After we got up, we waited for Todd to come home so we could go out to dinner. I had made reservations earlier in the day for this great hibachi place in Asheville.

Dinner was great, and really filling. Plus I opted to get the birthday song and cheesecake, which I had to have Todd finish. It was a lot of fun.

It was a really nice birthday!

I Love Leonard McCoy!

When I started watching Star Trek:TOS I was pretty young, 14 or 15 years old. I almost right away developed a large crush on DeForest Kelly circa 1960's as Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy. I'm not really sure why, but he was always my all-time favorite Star Trek character.

I still think he's terribly sexy so I was briefly worried about who they would cast as Bones in the new Star Trek movie. But then I found out that Karl Urban was going to be playing him and I was geeked. I had loved Karl Urban as Eomer in the 'Lord of the Rings' movies, and I thought he would make a good McCoy.

He ended up being better than good, and my crush on Leonard McCoy was renewed!

What brought all of this up in my mind was that I didn't feel like making lunch so I stopped by Burger King. They must have been using up older toys because guess who showed up in Emmy's kid's meal... but Leonard McCoy.

I might have to steal him away from her *L*

Pooh Bear

Like so many kids, I had a lovey, a Pooh Bear. He used to have the red shirt and used to be yellow, but after over 30 years he's looking a little worn.

I never really outgrew having a lovey - I didn't take him to college because I didn't want to lose him, but after that I still slept with him when I was feeling down or sick.

The only reason I really stopped sleeping with him because my husband got sick of rolling on him and sleeping on him in the middle of the night.

Once Emily was old enough to be trusted with him (aka not pull off his head which is not on very well anymore), he became a lovey to her. Though there are sometimes that I steal him back to still be my lovey.

St. Patrick's Day

When I was a kid, I hated St. Patrick's Day because it happens 2 days before my birthday and I was annoyed that some stupid dead guy got all the attention. In fact, I renamed my birthday 'St. Mandy's Day' which of course is silly since I'm very far from a saint. *L*

As I grew, I became more apathetic towards the holiday. I love green and a while ago I found out that I am part Irish, but I'm not a huge fan of drinking. And I'd much prefer a nice glass of white wine instead of green beer.

This St. Patrick's Day, I'll be at the doctors - like I've been every major holiday so far this year. I'll probably be wearing green, but that's only because there is a lot of green in my wardrobe.

I am looking quite forward to my birthday. Though I have no idea what is going to be going on that day.

Having No Internet Sucks

A couple of weeks ago, our modem died. It was 6 years old and apparently modems usually only last a couple of years. So when I called customer service for help they said they would send a new one and it would arrive in about 4 days (not including the weekend).

I am, admittedly, addicted to being connected to the internet. I dislike it when I can keep up with Facebook and my email when we go up to Michigan, partly because it piles up so quickly.

After about a day of no internet, my dearest husband decided that we should go and get smart phones. I got a Motorola Blur and I loooove it. Now I will never be unconnected again since there is T-Mobile service even in the thumb of Michigan.

Though even with having my new smartphone, it really started to be annoying that I couldn't use my laptop, especially since my work at home job requires internet access on my laptop. We waited and waited for the modem to arrive, and finally got fed up and called customer service back.

This is when we found out that we could have gone to Walmart and gotten a new modem on the first day ours died. That was annoying, but I'm super glad I got a smartphone out of it.

But I was behind on work, so I had to work extra to be able to get to the payout point. The "month" ended last night, so I'm hoping to have more time to blog and do other stuff as well.
